myHealth Blog: 5 Foods You Should Never Eat

Hi and welcome to this week's 50 & Beyond Health & Wellbeing blog. Each week I will provide you with knowledge, tips, advice and recommendations to inspire you to sustain good metabolic health specific to being over 50. Chris Deavin, myHealthCoach

My Nutrition Advice; "When it comes to what you should and should not eat, there is a lot of conflicting information. Should you only eat plants or meat? Should you only eat colourful fruit & veg (nothing white)? Or you should only eat seasonal food. No one can tell you what you should or not eat. Food for some people is more than just for nutritional reasons. Whatever reason you have for eating something, make sure it is because you want to eat it and are accepting of the outcomes (short-term and long-term) of that decision."

My Exercise Tip; "I have now been teaching exercise to people for over 20 years. Over that time, how, why and when you should exercise has changed. And so it should. The more we learn, the more things will change. But some things have lasted the test of time. Working hard, commitment to doing it and being consistent over a long enough time to see results."

My Lifestyle Suggestion; Tim Grover was the athletic trainer used by Michael Jordan (and many elite NBA players). Here he is describing the three things he asks of every player:

"I don't care how much you can lift, how fast you can run, how many pull-ups you can do, or whether you can hit a three while blindfolded. There are only three things I ask of every client... Show up, work hard, and listen. That's it. It requires no talent, no special genetics, or any skill whatsoever to show up, work hard, and listen."

My Habit-Building Advice For The Week;

"How many times have you set out to achieve the right result and ended up achieving something less, or worse, something completely different?

If that has happened to you, you are not alone.

No one I have met has started a journey with the belief they will never reach the destination they want. You simply don’t start a journey if you think it is a pointless task.

So why is it only a few of us eventually end up where we want to be?"
